More than 50 new features, improvements and bug fixes are waiting for you. Some new features are big and long awaited like the UCI engine support, some give significant performance boost (users with big databases can tell) and others are for some people critical like no admin rights to install the program.
UCI engine support is probably the highlight of this release.
But better chess pieces and sounds have been very popular requests too. There are new options available, but we are still looking for the perfect chess pieces and sounds.
Special credits go to Willy, Giuseppe and Álvaro for their Dutch, French, Italian and Portuguese translations. They did a great job to provide CPT 4 in the mother language of many CPT users – thanks a lot!

How to install
Just download the new version in the download section and install it. If you have installed a previous version it will be automatically removed during the installation process. Owners of a license don't have to do anything additional. The program will automatically recognize your license.

There is a bug in UCI engine mode.
Black's evaluation is relative (-1.00 for example means black is one pawn down) and subsequently evaluation symbols are wrong too (+=...+-...etc)
If its black to move Eval = -Eval...
Fixed with next minor update.

Despite I knew CPT was a great tool for Chess training, I never achieved the correct instalation of CPT 3 and thus I never had used properly your software before CPT 4. Now I am using CPT 4 to make a consolidation and ampliation of my opening repertory and I can see in practice how great CPT is! Thank you very much!
Statistics/Opening Complexity
When Black or White ticked it shows still complexity for both Black and White together.

great new stuff, I really like the new training possibilities.
When I'm training and a line is finished CPT starts a new line at once. Is there a way to see the positon comment at the end of a line when I'm training.

I agree with Wulf Behend. CPT needs some kind of option that makes the program automaticaly stop in the end of a line in order to allow the user to see and think about the final position, to read the comments and so on.
Even better, despite a different thing, is an option that allows the user to controll the speedy of the moves made by CPT in a training line. Not in a deomonstrative line (there already are such a control) but in a training line itselv.
Or a move by move stop ang go contol that allows hte user to read all comments of the adversary moves and positions.

Thanks very much for this new version. I already enjoy the ability to use an engine inside CPT.
An idea for a future release is to be able to access inside CPT some opening books: from Rybka or Hiarcs (the opening book they come with when you buy those engines) or from databases like chess assistant or chessbase. That way, for each position of my repertoire in CPT, I will see all the book moves (for me and my opponent) as well as their statistical performance (60%...).

Finally got it!!
After years of waiting for CPT4Pro version to be developed and released I bought the license yesterday and started training with latest version CPT4.1.
I enjoyed my first training again with CPT for at least 2 years-now watch my rating improve!

On the old CPT website you had free opening repertoires to download-I cannot see these on the new website? Are they available anywhere?
I made a White opening repertoire by importing pgn files but now I cannot remember which pgn files I used, so I tried to export the repertoire to pgn-it didn't work!Any idea (next repertoire I make I will make a note of the pgn filesI use!).

I think the demo mode is perfect. My above suggestions has not to do with this mode.
First, as Wulf suggested, It will be good if, at the end of training a line, after the user does his move, the program stops, allowing the user to see the position, read the comments and think about. Then, after this, the user will click in some button and the program will go to the start of the next line.
Second: The same option but after any move made by the user. This will allow the user to read all the comments about the position before the program made the correspondent move.
Thus, the options will be two:
You want to stop the program after you make the last move of a line? Yes - No
You want to stop the program after you make any move of a line (including the last one)? Yes - No
And:
Third: it will be good if the user could control the speed of the moves made by the program. Currently this is possible only for the demonstrations of the lines. My suggestion is to allow the user to control the speed of the program moves when training the lines.

Hey keep up the great work. Is there any chance we will see a feature to enter arbitrary starting position? I believe the old CPT3 had this. If CPT 4 could set up starting positions, it would be a monster endgame trainer.
You are right. CPT 3 supported tactic and endgame training. I left it out for CPT 4.0 as I wanted to do it better.
You will be glad to hear that next version will be all about this topic. Any feature suggestions are welcome (best done by creating a ticket in the support center as it makes it easier for me to track it and follow-up).

Any plans to make a Mac release?
Would really like to purchase this software, but currently cannot with the incompatibility.
No concrete plans yet, but the chances increase as I plan to support iOS/iPad, which is half-way to a true Mac program. I like this idea.
In the meantime: I know from several users that they run CPT on their Mac successful. It will work in VirtualBox if you install Windows XP. You will also have to make sure to have installed the .Net Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1. If you try this road and run into any problems, please use the support function to create a ticket and I'm happy to assist you!

I'm not so keen to purchase Virtualbox and a version of XP also. But I did wonder if you know if the Mac Parallels program will support Chess Position Trainer? If so I shall go ahead with that option for the time being.
I'm afraid, I don't know. I recommend to ask this question in a Mac forum. Somebody might be able to give you a more valid answer than I could. The important factor is the support of the ".Net Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1" on the virtual PC. If programs which require this framework are supposed to run, you should be on the safe side.
I'd love to see a forum or download section added where we can exchange repertoires.

Carl, don't click "Buy License", click "Download 4.1" (the middle button). Your 3.3 license code will be imported automatically and open up the full 4.1 version.

that's strange. I can't find any corresponding emails or tickets in the support system although I receive daily support requests.
Anyway, this comment reached me. As I have received similiar questions in the last couple days, I have decided to keep your questions here and not answering you privately:
The download link for CPT 4.1 Pro is the same as for the free version. However, after 30 days the Pro features will be deactivated unless you entered a license.
I optimized the update process with version 4.1 Future versions will always link to this page, if the program detects a new program version:

I am french and I just start to use evaluation version 4.1.1..
I just want to report something.
I have seen a small translation problem in the pop up window asking for new version checking.
The title is ok in french but inside the window the language seems to be spanish.
If you need the screenshot tell me how to send it.

thanks for making me aware of the wrong translation. It looks like I mixed the portuguese with the french translation here. I have exchanged the text with the french translation and it will be shown correctly with the next minor release.
